Here’s the description of what’s going on at The Vanishing Point Gallery this Friday. I can now also confirm that my performance will open the night at roughly 6:00 PM.
CLIMATE EMERGENCY
A world environment day film, video and performance nightFriday 5 June
6-9pmCLIMATE EMERGENCY
Curated by Ingrid DerneeThe world is facing a climate emergency while our leaders fail to act. The planet continues to warm, sea levels are rising and species are being lost. Climate Emergency aims to engage artists and the general public in a critical dialogue surrounding climate change, which will ultimately affect us all.
Climate Emergency is a one-night only film, video and performance night. Artists have been asked to respond to the world environment day theme – Climate Emergency – to express unique and creative perspectives on the issue.
The evening will open with a special guest speaker followed by a series of short films, video works and performances by 15 local, national and international artists.
Climate Emergency artists include: Priscilla Bourne, Carmel Byrne, Adrian Clement, Tony Curran, Alana Hunt, Maria Miranda and Norie Neumark, Sylvia Schwenk, Goran Tomic, Trevor Wills and Mark Wolfe.
Australian media artists Maria Miranda and Norie Neumark have been travelling the globe for their work Talking About the Weather, in which they ask people to donate a breathe of their air to try to fight climate change.
Adrian Clement will be performing a sound work that consists of a mix of live and pre-recorded sounds captured from acoustic and electronic instruments that have been constructed from found, recycled or discarded objects.
Currently based in New Delhi, India, Alana Hunt will screen her film three minutes of a more or less continuous landscape, which reflects on the still timelessness of the background and the endlessness of the continually shifting foreground. These begin to blur and almost collapse into one another.
Come and see these creative responses to climate change. We invite everyone to attend. Chai and snacks will be served and byo blanket!
